Hey there, my favorite Biz Starter!
A subscriber emailed me to ask if I've ever felt lost with setting up my business to provide services like coaching or consulting.
Honestly, I did once, and it worried me.๐
I knew it was a symptom of a larger problem...The real problem was I struggled with what so many people who want to be a coach or consultant struggle withโcommunicating their unique value proposition (UVP).
Whether youโre coaching someone on how to be a better marketer, sew, make soap, take photos, code, etc., giving away your time for free hurts your business.
I tweaked my unique value proposition to grow my consulting business.
I helped my client sell out her April and May coaching sessions by redefining her UVP, and here is what I did to get her there...
โ๏ธShe started where most coaches, consultants, and service providers begin - offering complimentary calls/sessions and creating proposals.
โ๏ธThis helped her get more information on what her target audience needed help with to tailor her positioning better to attract more qualified clients.
After a month of this, I waitedโฆthen it happenedโฆa breakthrough!๐ซ
She realized her expertise and time were too valuable to give away for free! Plus she had the data from her target audience to succeed.
You must accept this realization to make the second phase work.โคต๏ธ
Why? Because in discovery calls, you provide valuable advice and information to potential clients they wonโt get elsewhere for free.
Free discovery calls and writing proposals for free donโt pay the bills.
โ๏ธNext, we tweaked her value proposition and stopped free discovery calls and proposals.
โ๏ธSelling paid discovery involves offering a process to clients where a small discovery and strategy project is paid for upfront, allowing for collaborative discussion of goals, plan creation, and agreement before implementation.
โ๏ธWith paid discovery calls, she established stronger relationships with clients by working with them to identify their goals, available resources, budget, and timeline. It minimizes the guesswork and ensures a more successful outcome.

To a client, this looks amazing and positions you differently from your competitors.
Plus, you better understand your client's needs, build trust, create a solid foundation for future projectsโand best of all you get paid for your time.โค๏ธ
Once my client started respecting her value and honoring her worth, she could help people from a position of openness without restrictions.
