A few weeks ago, I did something I hadn’t done in about four years. Something that surprised even me.

I went to the gym to exercise.

For most people, this may seem like no big deal. But as a self-proclaimed germaphobe—even before the pandemic—this was monumental.

I’m the woman who avoids shaking hands, bypasses potluck invitations, and carries hand sanitizer like an extension of my body.

And while those quirks might make some laugh, they’re just part of who I am.

So why on earth would I willingly enter a space filled with shared equipment, sweaty strangers, and endless high-touch surfaces?

Because I was ready to step outside my comfort zone.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

A few years ago my husband built a gym inside our summer and winter homes during the pandemic so we could exercise every day.

Since starting to play pickleball—to change things up, we rejoined our local gym.

I admit it was nice stepping outside my comfort zone. I grabbed my Lysol wipes and gym bag and haven’t looked back.

As we get closer to the end of the year, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone.

I know it may not be easy, but it’s where the magic happens.

So grab your metaphorical Lysol wipes, take a deep breath, and go for it. You’ve got this.
