I looked down at a WhatsApp message from Richard, my Sales & Marketing team member. He left a voice message saying, “I hate to bother you, but did you draft the 65th issue of the newsletter before you left?”

It’s been a crazy two weeks, so I’m quickly checking in with you while I’m on vacation in Madrid, Spain, with the family for our 18th wedding anniversary. We’ve been here for two weeks, so by the time you read this, we’ll be heading back to the hustle and bustle of the States. Besides, I’m missing my new puppy.

Although beautiful, since we’ve been in Madrid, I’ve noticed how laid back everyone is and the slow service we received. We’re on vacay, but I know the low level of urgency (for anything) we received here won’t work back in the States. We had to wait 40 minutes or more to get our check several times. It got me thinking about the importance of the customer experience.

It made me reflect on how a business can encourage customers to return repeatedly.

To truly grow your business, you need a simple way to onboard new clients to jumpstart the best customer experience for them.

A client onboarding process helps clients feel confident about hiring you.😊

It also allows you to look professional and make it easier for clients to refer your business to friends and colleagues.

Here are some quick tips I’ve helped clients implement in their business:

  • Map out the entire client onboarding journey

  • Collect necessary information upfront to prevent delays to ensure a smooth service delivery

  • Send detailed welcome emails outlining the next steps and expectations.

  • Conduct kickoff calls to personalize client relationships and ensure clarity on deliverables.

  • Leverage tools like Honeybook or Dubsado for automation and Convertkit for email marketing.

  • Offer a structured off-boarding process to solicit referrals and testimonials.

These help you establish clear communication methods and emphasize the importance of professionalism and process clarity to build long-term client relationships.
